My Top 5 Strengths

I went to the website to take the strengths finder test and I apparently took it already. My top 5 strengths were restorative, positivity, developer, input and achiever. I was guessing I took this test my freshman year probably for Intro to Spiritual Formation class, so I decided to take it again and I got...

  1. Developer- seeing the potential in others
  2. Responsibility- taking ownership for anything you commit to, follow it through completion, utterly dependable, your willingness to volunteer may sometimes lead you to take on more than you should.
  3. Focus- clear destination is needed, a lot of goal setting, impatient with delays, obstacles anything that may wander you off to where you wanna go or do; keep everyone on point
  4. Positivity- generous with praise, quick to smile, always on the lookout for the positive in the situation, lighthearted
  5. Futuristic- the future fascinates you, pulls you forward into tomorrow, a dreamer, vision

It's crazy how these strengths describe me for the most part, especially developer, positivity and futuristic. I have to admit, it's exciting thinking how I'm going to integrate my strengths during teaching. As a developer, seeing the best in my students will produce confidence, motivation and hope for my students and their parents as well. Responsibility, will help me stay on task and be determined with lesson planning, due dates, meetings, conferences etc (this goes for focus as well). Positivity will always be part of who I am. This just comes naturally to me and it can brighten up my students days (or anyone in general) =D. Thinking about my future (futuristic), will continue to give me hope and motivate me to keep moving forward; not only for teaching but also for my involvement in the youth ministry in my church and the other areas of my life.

  1. You TOTALLY have the "Futuristic" and "Positivity" strength. You are always thinking about the goal and talking about how great things are going to be when our stresses are over. And I still have a picture that you texted all of us ECE 338 girls, the one that said, "By perseverance, the snail reached the ark." I love these strengths in you, Jen!

    1. Hahaha, you still have that picture? I remember that. I think we all need to know that running this race, is not about being first place, but about completing it. I"m going to blog about this haha. Love you Jess! You are AWESOME!

  2. Now that you know what strengths you have, have you tried using them to your advantage? I could definitely see you using those strengths by offering assessments and activities that focus highly on imagination and achieving ones dreams. I think that your strenghts are not only great for any person, but escpecially in the teaching field where you are seeing a future in the lives of your students.

    1. Yes, I have actually. The other day, I had the opportunity to encourage one of the girls in my class. She was called "fat" by another student which surprisingly was the autistic child (he tends to shut down and stay quiet most of the time). I saw the expression in her face when she found out what he said. Her response was "Oh." I looked at her and told her "Sierra, you are not fat. You are beautiful. Don't worry about it." Now that I think of it though, I hope I didn't give off a message that fat people are ugly, because they are not. But in my mind I knew that she was thinking she wasn't pretty. I just wanted to affirm her beauty and encourage her. Even with the autistic child in my class, I always hope and I can visualize that his case will get better, where he can transfer to a public school where he can receive the special education services that he used to have before going to St. Paul (the school where I am at). He has potential and he will unfold. Besides, there is nothing that our God cannot do. It would be great to see if years from now, Rodney no longer has autism =D.
