2nd Placement
Wow. I havent blogged in a long time. Ok. Here it goes. Well, let me start off with writing about my second placement. I am now in Mrs. Hogarty’s 2nd grade classroom in St. Paul School (Catholic and private school). There are a total of 16 students in my class. One of them Rodney, is autistic. They are all so great =D. This school is definitely different than the one I was in before. On the walls, there are many posters about Jesus, God, the Great Commandments, and encouraging quotes. The faculty are all very nice, welcoming, and interested in getting to know me. My teacher is very nice as well. She is kind-hearted but very structured and “rough” on the students. At first I thought “Why is she raising her voice to the kids?” I didn’t like that. But as I started to get to know her more outside the classroom, she is such a sweet lady. Turns out, that she has a different perspective about school. “School is a place where children come to learn and not play.” The reason why she is very structured is because she is disciplining the kids and teaching them to be responsible and organized, which is also why the students’ desk are arranged in rows and not in groups of 2 or more. Based from her experience with the students in the beginning of the year is that when the students’ desks were grouped together, they would talk and not pay attention to the teaching. That’s why she prefers to have the desks arranged in rows, which is understandable.
